One in Nine Men Have Paid For Sex!

When I first came to work for XEscorts, one of the questions which came into my over-active mind was ‘how many men actually pay for sex?’ It was certainly a subject that interested me greatly, even before I came to work here.
Now I have to say, I have never actually paid for sex. That isn’t out of any moral behaviour; it is purely that I have been with my wife for 15 years and I don’t feel the need to ‘sample the delights’ elsewhere, However, I have never had had any problem with people paying for sex. In-fact, I openly support the legalisation of the sex industry, and always have done.
I would go out when but younger to nightclubs with my single friends, and I would watch them try and get it on with girls. After buying the young lady drinks all night, they would usually go home on their own and have a wank. I always wondered why they didn’t just go to a massage parlour at the end of the night? That way they pay, but they were guaranteed action.
One in Nine
Now I never knew if I was a little bit ‘out there’ with my theory. However, the recent figures which show that one in nine men have admitted paying for sex makes fascinating reading. That’s right…ONE IN NINE
The most likely people to visit prostitutes are 25 to 34-year-old single men in managerial or professional occupations. Those with a higher number of sexual partners are also more likely to visit a sex worker.
Lead scientist Dr Cath Mercer, from University College London, said: ‘The picture that emerges does not necessarily fit the stereotype of the lonely older man.
‘In fact, men who pay for sex are more likely to be young professionals with many unpaid sexual partners. Many report other hedonistic and risky behaviours including heavy drinking and drug taking.’
The report states that men who used prostitutes made up 15.6 per cent of all reported STI diagnoses in male population.
No Connection
Now it was at this point that I got a little worried about where this study was heading. Was it trying to say (or at least imply) that guys who see prostitutes get STI’s? Well, thankfully no.
Dr Mercer said: ‘Men who pay for sex are evidently at high risk of infection, but this does not necessarily mean that the STIs are spread through their paid sex.
‘Instead, we found that these men report engaging in other risky sexual behaviours, such as having concurrent – or overlapping – partners, and so should be considered a core-group for sexual health interventions and services.’
I have always found that sex workers are less likely to give you an STI as they are massive on contraception; probably more so than the drunk girl you meet in the local nightclub.
A lot of this paying for sex actually occurs abroad, presumably on ‘lad’s holiday’s. Unsurprisingly the two main hot-spots are Amsterdam and Bangkok; both famed for their sex industries.
‘Paying for sex may seem more permissible abroad, at a place removed from the day-to-day lives of most men,’ Dr Mercer added.
‘Paid sex can also be more readily available in certain areas so if men mention to their health professional that they will be travelling to destinations known for sex tourism, and especially those where the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections and HIV is high, then it would be opportunistic to have a conversation about safe sex.’
Not That Surprising
I have to say, after working at XEscorts for two years, I’m not really surprised by these figures at all, although I did think the figure would be nearer 5%. We have so many escorts on our pages, and when you chat with them, you realise that they are doing very good business. Either this is one guy travelling around the country with a very sore willy and an empty wallet, or the sex industry is more popular than people would suspect.
Just because guys aren’t chatting with their mates in the pub about which escort they have seen this week, doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening.
