The Trafford Centre is a large indoor shopping centre and leisure centre in Dumplington, Greater Manchester. Situated in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, the Trafford Centre is situated close to the Trafford Park Industrual Estate.
Construction began in 1996 and the centre opened in 1998, becoming the countries first 'mega mall' which combined retail, dining and leisure facilities. At that time the Trafford Centre was the largest shopping centre in the UK, but was overtaken by the Bluewater in Kent.
The owners, the Peel Group, sold the centre to Capital Shopping Centres in 2011 in a deal worth £1.6 Billion. It was the biggest European property deal of 2011.
The Orient is located in the central hall of the Trafford Centre and is primarily a 1,600 seat food court themed on a steam ship.
The Great Hall was opened in 2007. This glazed structure houses five resteraunts and cafes and cost £26 million to construct.
There are three major shopping centres in the Trafford Centre; Peel Avenue, Regent Crescent and Barton Square. There is also a 20 screen Odeon cinema, a Laser Quest Centre, miniture golf and other leisure facilities.
There are excellent travel links to the Trafford Centre. It is situated off the M60 motorway and is served by numerous bus routes.The Trafford Centre
