Old Trafford Cricket Ground

Old Trafford is a cricket ground in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester. It has been the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club since it was formed in 1864. It has been a Test match venue since 1884.

The site was first used as a cricket ground in 1857, when the Manchester Cricket Ground moved there. By 1899, 50,000 spectators watched a test match at the ground.

During the inter-war years, Lancashire had their most successful period, winning four county championships in five years.

The two ends to the ground are the Pavillion end to the north and the Brian Statham end to the south, renamed in honour of the former Lancashire and England player.

The Old Trafford Lodge was opened in 1999. The hotel has 68 rooms, 36 of which command unobstructed views of the pitch.

The Point was opened in 2010 and at 1000 seats, is one of the largest multi-purpose conference facilities in the North-West. It cost £12 million, and despite the economic downturn, has been a success.

Old Trafford is in the process of a major development which is taking it into the modern age. This work has seen it regain it's major Test status. The work will be complete by 2013.

A number of bands have played at Old Trafford including, Oasis, David Bowie and the Kings of Leon. This gives the ground extra income, even during the Cricket off-season.
