The Law: Prostitution itself is not an offence under UK law. But it is illegal for a prostitute to loiter or solicit in a public place. It is also illegal for a client to solicit a prostitute on the street or from his motor vehicle ("kerb crawling").
Street prostitution used to be common in parts of England, but it is much less common now, because English prostitution has largely moved indoors. These days, if you see a lady working on the streets in England, you may well be looking at a drug addict or otherwise vulnerable person. Using the services of such ladies could be supporting drug-addiction, exploiting vulnerable persons and blighting English communities. So, don't do it!
